Renewables to participate in Capacity Market for the first time
The government has published the response to its consultation on proposed amendments to the UK Capacity Market. It confirms that for the first time, renewables will be allowed to bid for contracts.
What’s next for the Capacity Market?
As a result of stakeholder feedback, the government plans to:
- replace the planned T-4 auction with a T-3 auction for delivery in 2022 to 2023
- allow certain renewable technologies to participate in the Capacity Market
- remove the historical floor from the interconnector de-rating methodology
- make minor corrections and additions to the rules to make sure they are clear and operate as intended
