The Government has opened a consultation to seek views on whether to widen the scope of eligibility for energy intensive industries (EIIs) for exemption from a proportion of the indirect costs of the renewable electricity support schemes.

This includes Contracts for Difference (CfD), Renewables Obligation (RO) and, if introduced, small-scale Feed-In Tariffs (FIT).

It is also consulting on two additional issues, relating to:

(a)  redistribution of money recovered from over-exempted EIIs;

(b)    and (b) improving operation of the exemption schemes.

Who does BEIS want to hear from?

The team at BEIS is seeking views from a wide range of audiences, including energy intensive industries (whether currently benefitting or not benefitting from the exemption schemes), other electricity consumers, trade bodies, consumer associations, the devolved administrations and other interested parties.
